Lee moved to Bude in 1991 and runs the ‘Ride it Cycles’ shop in Bude. They’ve had the busiest year on record, selling hundreds of bikes during lockdown. Bude Life caught up with him for our latest ‘In the spotlight’ feature.

How has the last year been for you business-wise?

It’s been crazy. Lots of new customers with more time on their hands to cycle. We sold every single bike we had in store. Lockdown has got lots more people cycling in Bude.

Best places to cycle locally?

There’s a good road cycling scene locally, we also have good coastal roads with the best climbs. Bude Canal is limited in distance but also nice.

Best job you’ve had?

Working here at Ride it Cycles – I love the customer interaction and have made a lot of friends through it too.

What’s your favourite meal?

Thai Curry

What’s your favourite football team?

I can’t stand football – it’s all about the bikes for me!

Favourite place to cycle

French Alpes, but in the Bude area, definitely the coastal paths, but also at the woods in Tiscott

What’s your favourite film?

Gran Torino

What’s your favourite band?

The Prodigy

What do you enjoy doing outside of work apart from cycling?

Surfing and exploring new places

If you were stuck on a desert island, what 2 things would you want with you?

  1. My bike (of course it was). 2. My wife and kids

What’s your biggest regret?

Not travelling more when I was younger

If you could change something in Bude, what would it be?

I would add more cycle routes in the area and get more biking groups started
