‘When my Mum needed it, I experienced how difficult it was to find high quality and consistent care’
Bude Life caught up with Lynn Roddy who joined the team at ‘Home Instead’ after learning first-hand how important it should be to provide a good home care service.
It’s been a challenging year for many care providers including Home Instead. It has also involved them becoming a PPE distribution hub and HQ for Covid testing kits. Their teams have been working in bubbles to protect everyone and have been regularly carrying out testing, ensuring that both clients and staff remain safe. The team provides care for people at home, covering Bude as well as surrounding areas towards Launceston.
For Owner Lynn Roddy, her passion for providing care was as a direct result of struggling to care for her own Mum at home. She told us ‘As mum’s health declined and seeing me so worried, mum asked to go into a care home. However, mum would have dearly loved to stay at home. I came across Home Instead following a period of reflection after mum passed away. I was impressed to see the ways it differs from other traditional care companies’.
Recently Lynn has helped steer Home Instead towards an ‘Outstanding’ rating by the Care Quality Commission, which is a rating achieved by only 3% of care providers. Lynn puts this down to her ‘incredible’ and ‘highly energised’ team of dedicated staff.
Lynn told us that the secret of being an ‘excellent’ care provider was being attentive to the needs of both its clients and staffing team. She said ‘by recruiting well and providing excellent training, we know we have a team who are compassionate, experienced and highly capable. Our ethos is to change the face of ageing and it is with passion and commitment that we are here in your local community. Naturally, we miss being out and about more generally, and we can’t wait to get back to supporting our community groups’.
